  • The goal of this research is to devise a strategy that will help move Florida in the direction of standardizing its crash analysis. The targeted stakeholders include both the traffic safety engineers and the law enforcement officers. The end results are expected to help agencies avoid the costly duplication of efforts in software tool development and maintenance. Accordingly, this project will aim to achieve the following objectives:
    1. Visit local FDOT district and select county, city, and law enforcement offices in South Florida to personally interview their safety personnel to learn about their crash analysis practices, requirements, constraints, and needs.
    2. Develop and conduct comprehensive online surveys to gather the same information from district, county, city, and law enforcement agencies outside South Florida.
    3. Obtain access to the software tools and related documentation from each agency and evaluate each in detail to determine their respective functionality and performance.
    4. Identify best practices and recommend detailed strategies on how the needs can be accommodated under a standard approach.
