Use of Advanced Analysis Tools to Support Freeway Corridor Freight Planning

  • This project includes the development of an Integrated environment that import traffic detector data from different detection sources such as FDOT statistics office data and ITS detector data and use this data in the development and calibration of macroscopic and mesoscopic/dynamic traffic assignment models. The environment will be used for Corridor Freight Planning will include combinations of advanced operational strategies and intelligent transportation system technologies. A number of modules were developed as part of the developed tool including:
    • Data importing and pre-processing
    • Traffic network geometry conversion from the macro to the meso models
    • Trip table estimation based on traffic detector data
    • Mesoscopic model/Dynamic traffic assignment model calibration based on traffic detector data
    • Evaluation and selection of freight corridor strategies
